Seniors Helping Seniors® Bethesda is a premium home care agency with mature and sophisticated caregivers who are viewed as peers rather than hired help. Our caregivers include former diplomats, attorneys, business executives, artists, professors, lobbyists, nurses, scientists, pharmacists, teachers, Olympians, and pilots, and we provide them with training and coaching to ensure that every caregiver is knowledgeable and qualified.

We know that quality care starts with friendship, so we only hire caregivers who have the compassion and interpersonal skills to build meaningful relationships. We also match clients with caregivers who have compatible personalities and similar interests.

We provide a wide array of non-medical care and support services that help keep seniors safe and happy, and our nursing team provides clinical support and oversight. Our emphasis on engagement and socialization enables premier companion care and dementia care, and we work well with seniors who are resistant to care.

"I second [the recommendation of] this organization [and] their Home Care and Companionship model, matching people really nicely and well with a senior who can help them and care for them.” - Margie Hackett, Manager of Population Health and Transitional Care, Suburban Hospital

“Seniors Helping Seniors transformed my view of what an agency like this could be. Never previously having needed to engage with an elder care service, I was reluctant when my aging mother first needed support in her home after a hospitalization several months ago. What my family and I found was an amalgam of competence, expertise, reliability, responsiveness, warmth, and an incredibly personal touch. This has been a blessing. As Mom now needs more services, SHS and its amazing leader, Ben Chernow, have provided support every step of the way. And his team is helping us begin the likely transition to assisted living in the future. Kudos and gratitude!”

"You guys were the best thing that happened to my dad and I am eternally grateful, a year later, for everything you guys did. You saved the day, in so many different ways."

"Seniors Helping Seniors in Bethesda has been a wonderful resource for our family as we navigated care for our loved one with dementia. The caregivers are not only compassionate but also highly skilled in addressing the unique needs that come with dementia care. They take the time to engage with our loved one, ensuring they feel supported and valued. It's been such a relief to find a service that genuinely understands the challenges of dementia and offers personalized care. We are incredibly grateful for the peace of mind this has given our family!"

"Caretakers are the unsung heroes of everyday life. . A great caretaker isn’t just someone who provides care—they’re someone who brings warmth, stability, and a sense of security to those around them. SHS was able to suggest the best match for my wife and I am greatful. Thanks"

"My wife, 84, suffers from memory loss. She is able to care for herself bodily but has become greatly dependent. She needed more company than just me; and I needed relief from attending to her around the clock. Someone referred me to SHS. At first we had one woman coming twice a week for four hours. It worked so well (and our needs continued to grow) that now we have someone from SHS 7 days a week for six hours. Three different women come in rotation. They chat with my wife, play various simple word games and the like. They do a little bit of housework, e.g., water the plants, empty the dishwasher. My wife thrives on their company, as her own old friends have largely passed away or are also suffering from illness or otherwise hard to connect with. And it allows me to continue to do my own work (part-time and from home) without interruption, as well as to get out as needed for shopping and other errands. When I initiated this arrangement I anticipated some bumps in the road. To my amazement there have scarcely been any. All three women are lovely, and Ben, the owner and coordinator, is a pleasure to work with. SHS has been a godsend to us."
