Our Story

Marie Paul, Owner/General Manager

I started Seniors Helping Seniors® Pee Dee after more than 21 years of experience in hospital revenue cycle management. My inspiration came from my own experiences with active older adults, and I quickly recognized the value of providing meaningful opportunities for seniors to remain engaged and independent during their retirement years.

I personally witnessed the impact of loneliness on my "Meme," who spent considerable time at home alone, eventually becoming depressed and experiencing a decline in her quality of life. Conversely, my mother refused to retire, fearing that a lack of purpose would lead to her death. When I learned about the Seniors Helping Seniors' concept, these experiences deeply resonated with me. It became clear that seniors could effectively support other seniors in need. I know many families face challenges associated with aging, and the opportunity to help both seniors in need and those who wish to stay active perfectly aligns with my goals.

As the owner and general manager, I oversee the organization’s day-to-day operations, including staff management and client relations, ensuring compassionate and reliable care for every client. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, reading, and volunteering in my community.

“For many elderlies, the pandemic really sent their feelings of loneliness and isolation right through the roof! No one should have to combat loneliness. Sometimes the only thing you can do is give yourself. I enjoy my Seniors Helping Seniors® client’s stories of their past. Just listening to what they have lived through and hearing their views of the present and the future can be an eye-opening experience. I really enjoy my visits! I hope that my presence is one of their presents for the week. Being a senior myself, the benefits work both ways.”
